Are erotica novels anything like romance novels or are they a completely separate genre? Was wandering because I found this interesting story but it was erotica and wasn't sure if it was the same as romance.

Essentially, the difference between the two genre's is the ending, and sometimes the content. Basically, Romance novels have the HEA ending whereas the Erotica novels don't. And Romance generally has more...well...romance and a strong story line. Erotica is more sex and less emotions.
There's really more to it than that, but that is the most simple way to put it. Publishers all have a different view on what is considered Erotica and what is considered Romance.
Now adays, there is a very fine line between the two.

Hmmm.... thanks. Wanted to make sure before I ever get an erotica novel. Also, are they just as good of a read as romance from your opinion?

~cackles~ I am not the right person to ask this question to...trust me.
I have read Erotica, and loved it simply because I am perfectly okay with reading a book that has pretty much no actual premise and is ram packed full of mindless s...e...x. ~cheeky grin~
I do definately prefer romance, however. I would say give it a shot. Read an erotica novel, and then you'll know if you like them.
Like I said, now adays, there is a very fine line between the two genres. There once was Erotica...and Romance. Now, you can find many great Erotic Romance novels. A blend of the two genres with a bit more essence.

Hey luvs, just thought I would make another note. If you are interested in finding out what Erotica is all about, a great Erotica author, who is also the Paranormal Romance author of the Elemental Witches series is Anya Bast.
She has a few series and many single titles in the Erotica genre, though I have only read a few of the books. One of the books that I read of hers that I realy enjoyed was "A Change of Season". It's pretty kinky though...cause the main character Moira falls in love with a king...but is also sleeping with his brother. ~grins~
Which explains the cover...a naked woman in between two naked men...~snickers~ The cover caught my attention, but the story is actually quite good.

Okay, maybe I'll check it out. The one erotica book I was interested in was The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice. It's a trilogy about a twist on the Sleeping Beauty story. Instead of the Prince breaking her spell with a kiss, he breaks it by having sex with her and then she becomes his eternal slave. That's all I remember from reading about it, it actually sounded pretty interesting since Sleeping Beauty was never my favorite princess.

~laughs~ Well, I actually haven't looked into that one, but come one...it's freakin' Anne Rice. You can't go wrong. ~chuckles~

I've been reading the TREK series by Jaid Black and i've really enjoyed it....i would say that the plot and character development is not quite as in depth as the PR books i've been reading like Gena (obviously) Kresley Cole, Lara Adrian & J R WARD but the um... (cough)...sex scenes are very good!
